In an endeavor to alleviate the suffering of the impoverished, widows, and orphans, the International Welfare Relief Organization (hereafter referred to as IWRO) distributes food parcels annually during the Holy month of Ramadan in different regions of Afghanistan.

This year, the appeals for assistance from the destitute, widows, and orphans have exceeded expectations. Owing to the prevailing political situation and economic instability, an overwhelming number of families headed by widows or orphaned individuals have lost their meager sources of income, resulting in a dire situation of starvation.

Considering the circumstances, IWRO had to prioritize among thousands of families in distress and select those who were most deserving of assistance. These selected families were provided with Ramadhan Food Parcels, offering a measure of comfort and relief to individuals who were already enduring immense hardships and injustices in their lives because of poverty, compounded by the political situation in the country.

Each family received a parcel consisting of 6 items:

• 100 kg Flour
• 5 kg Rice
• 5 kg Sugar
• 10 litre Oil
• 5 kg Lentils
• 2 kg Dates

Each parcel provided sufficient basic provisions for each family to survive the entire Holy month of Ramadan and provided the entire household with a decent meal. The families generally make do with the items provided in the parcel as there are no savings nor other resources to afford any additional ration apart from maybe some fresh vegetables available in the local market or farms to use to supplement the donated parcels.

With an average family size of 14-16 members per family, a total of 4,700 families benefited from funds received from our generous donors. The distribution took place in Mazar Sharif, Bamiyan, Besud, Merkez Daykundi,Kabul, Ghazni, and Herat. The below table provides the details of the distribution.
