As part of our efforts to bring joy to our poor brothers and sisters in Afghanistan, the International Welfare Relief Organization provides Iftaar packages each year during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The current unprecedented circumstances, we have more than 3000 widowed women and their families in our registers in the 4 provinces of Afghanistan (Herat, Kabul, Ghazni & Balkh) (with a minimum of 16 people per family of 2-3 generations of widows and their orphans per household) in a very dire situation where families have no means of earning a living or supporting themselves. Before the lockdown, widows worked as housekeepers in the neighborhood for a daily wage and if there was no work they would beg near a mosque where they would have enough to feed the household with a meal for the day. Now the situation is such that they don’t even have enough to eat one meal a day and are on the verge of starvation.
Our goal is to feed 3,000 poor families in 4 cities in Afghanistan including Herat, Ghazni, Balkh and Kabul.
With the help of our donors, IWRO hopes to provide food parcels to widows’ families this Ramadan. We believe that this Ramadan we can help ease the worry and anxiety of more widowed and needy families by donating food parcels so that during Ramadan families can sit together and eat a nutritious, balanced meal to break their fast. This has become even more critical in these times of emergency.
Many poor Muslim brothers and sisters have only basic meals of dry bread and water or milk, if they can afford it. We ask for your support for the Ramadhan Appeal food parcel program to help desperate widowed families who are constantly struggling.
What better time to express your generosity and receive Sawab than during the holy month of Ramadan?
It is estimated that the number of people who die of hunger and poverty each year. In addition, the rise of the Taliban to power has pushed the Afghan population further into food insecurity. Many families sell their children so as not to starve.
Although we are able to fast and know for sure that we will have food at the end of our fast, this is not the case for our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan. For many of these families, Iftaar meals, received from food parcels, may be the only decent meal they have had in days or even weeks.
The number of women and children who benefit from your generosity depends on your donations.
With an average family size of 14-16 members per family, a total of 2,893 families benefited from funds received from our generous donors. The distribution took place in Mazar Sharif, Kabul, Ghazni, and Herat. The below table provides the details of the distribution.
City | Sadat Families | Non-Sadat Families | Total Families |
Mazar Sharif | 211 | 414 | 625 |
Kabul | 198 | 700 | 898 |
Ghazni | 215 | 385 | 600 |
Herat | 240 | 530 | 770 |
Total | 864 | 2,029 | 2,893 |
On behalf of our beneficiaries, we would like to thank all our donors and their supporters for donating the poor and desperate families during the Holy month of Ramadan.
May Allah (SWT) continue to bless you all in this world and in the next. Ameen
